Living Desert:
Palm Springs, CA

Feeding a giraffe is a rare experience. It left me in stitches. I couldn’t get over the way the giraffe wound his tongue around the carrot stick.

At the Living Desert they work to promote desert conservation through preservation, education and appreciation. The Living Desert focuses mostly on preserving desert plants, animals and ecosystems. Since their establishment in 1970, The Living Desert expanded their grounds from 360 acres to 1,200 acres, of which 1,000 acres remain in their natural state.

There are many interesting animals at the Living Desert in addition to the many giraffes. There are Cheetahs, Bobcats, Coyotes, and Desert Bighorn Sheep, just to mention a few. The grounds are beautifully designed in a natural way and well maintained.

In addition to the animals and beautiful walking path, the Living Desert also has an outdoor modern train exhibit. An exhibit with mini scenes created and working trains riding on the tracks. The scenes are very realistic and  have amazing detail.
