Polin-Museum of the History of the Jewish People:
Warsaw, Poland

I was pleasantly surprised to see what a modern, up to date and fascinating museum the Polin Museum is. The Core Exhibition of the museum, which opened on October 28, 2014, presents a 1,000 year history of the Polish Jews dating back to when and how the Jews came to Poland and what happened step by step after that socially and religiously.

When we arrived at the museum I noticed the interesting design. When I looked closely I noticed the Hebrew alphabet covered the outside walls. Once inside we went through the eight galleries of the Core Exhibition spread over 4,000 square meters. The exhibits are creatively displayed presenting the heritage and culture of the Polish Jews from when they arrived in Poland, how the Jewish settlements began, with focus on the Holocaust, focusing both on those that perished and also those that survived. The journey through the museum concludes with a display on contemporary times. The exhibits use various means of portraying the story of Jewish life such as artefacts, paintings, interactive installations, reconstructions, models, and video projections and helps visitors have a clear picture of life in Poland.

Outside the Museum is the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Monument, which commemorates those in the Warsaw Ghetto who fought the Nazis with their last bit of strength, until they were killed.
