The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens(The Biblical Zoo):
Malha, Jerusalem

The Biblical Zoo opened in Jerusalem’s Malha neighborhood in 1993. Stretching across almost 100 acres, the Zoo is extremely popular, attracting over 750,000 visitors annually. The Zoo’s scenic location in the Judean Hills makes the visit all the more enjoyable. The over 200 employees and volunteers work to ensure that the animals are well taken care of and that guests have a memorable experience. While we were visiting we watched them walk an elephant from one area to the next.

This zoo is unusual in the way that it puts emphasis on species from the land of Israel and the biblical terms of the animals are posted. The Zoo is located on a mountain. There is a train that drives through the zoo. We took the train up to the huge wooden replica of Noah’s Ark. From there we made our way down the mountain stopping by the exhibits. Since we were walking downhill it was not very strenuous even in the heat.

This zoo is enjoyable on all levels. Children and adults alike find themselves drawn to this unique zoo.
