Although I’ve heard people say that the ride on one of the three spherical orange cable cars is not as exciting as it looks, I beg to differ. I found the views of the beach and the port magnificent. The ride is a short five minutes but very much worth it. The cable car leaves from the lower station that houses the Yotvata restaurant and transports visitors from the beach at the western end of Bat Galim Promenade up to the top of Mount Carmel. You can see the Clandestine Immigration and Navy Museum museum’s ship and submarine from the cable car.

The upper terminal is at the site of the Old Lighthouse and Stella Maris. There is a refreshment kiosk with outdoor seating at the upper terminal.

When we visited, we went up with the cable car, and then we hiked down, passing the famous Cave of Elija the Prophet referred to in the Bible. The hike down was easy, it was energizing, and best of all, we got to enjoy beautiful views on the way.
