Wave Hill Public Garden:
Bronx, NY

Serene is the first word that comes to mind when I think of Wave Hill Gardens. The garden is spread over 28 acres with plenty of lounge chairs and benches sprinkled throughout. The garden is a great place to relax in addition to walking the paths. Since the garden is spread over such a large area most of the formal gardens are contained near the entrance to the garden. With lots of pretty landscaping leading to surrounding paths.

The Wave Hill house was built in 1843 as a country home for William Lewis Morris. There were famous personalities that leased the property at different times including Theodore Roosevelt and Mark Twain. In 1960 the owners; the Perkins-Freeman family gave over Wave Hill to the City of New York. The garden is now enjoyed by the many visitors.

While we were at the garden I kept reminding myself that we actually were in a city and not in some out of the way rural area.  There was a relaxed feel all around. The views of the Hudson River and Palisades were breathtaking.
