One of the first things we noticed when we disembarked from the train in Antwerp was the Zoo. The zoo, located in the middle of the city, has been an icon in Antwerp for nearly 175 years.  There is a wide variety of animals at the zoo including the larger animals such as lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants, koalas. There are many types of monkeys, birds, fish, sea lions, flamingos and many more animals.

The shows and animal feedings are highlights for visitors. There are public feedings of the African penguin, elephant, Black capped squirrel monkey and spectacled bear, as well as feedings in the Buffalo Savanna and the most popular sea lion show. It is a good idea to check the schedule and plan your route around the feedings and shows. Whether the weather is warm or cold there are plenty of animals to see at the Antwerp Zoo.
